About Mucky Boots

The first fully outdoor nursery in North East Scotland, opened in 2017.
Our founder and managing director Dawn Ewen created Mucky Boots after 20 years teaching in primary schools and early years settings.

Since then, Mucky Boots has evolved into a much loved and popular provider of childcare in Aberdeenshire.

Our Values
Kindness, Curiosity, Connection in Nature
Relationships are at the heart of everything we do; with our children, families, staff and partners, and our beautiful woodland site.

Our values reflect this and we use them to inform all aspects of our practice, our approach, our offerings for our children and our close ties to our community.
Vision
At Mucky Boots we journey with our community as we grow in, with and for nature.
Values
Kindness - sharing the load, acceptance, honesty and authenticity
Curiosity - our finds, our space, each other. Sometimes curiosity is quiet, sometimes it comes from the quiet
Connection in nature - to the environment, to one another and to self
Aims
1 Use a gentle, whole-child approach, to meet children’s needs so they feel safe to thrive and flourish.
2 Nurture compassionate and reflective connections with all members of our community - ourselves, children, staff, families, neighbours and organisational partners.
3 Offer a wild environment, rich in space and time, that gives children opportunities for growth and exploration and to experience awe and wonder in the natural world.
Our Business Model
We are a Social Enterprise. Our business model is Company Limited by Guarantee. This means that every penny of surplus we make goes into providing our high quality services. There are no shareholders to pay. Instead, our money supports high staff ratios, quality food and resources for our children, the very best training opportunities and compassionate working conditions for our staff team.
